Year 3 and 4’s current IPC topic is all about rainforests. What better way to bring learning to life than to take a trip to Zlín Zoo rainforest?
On Wednesday 16th February, with 21 excited children and 4 equally excited teachers, this is precisely what we did!
Within seconds of taking our first few steps into the rainforest, the humidity hit us like a hot shower! The children were truly able to experience the extent of the hot and humid weather that a rainforest thrives in. It was as if we had stepped into another world.
Animals of the rainforest such as monkeys, sloths and birds were roaming free all around us. The children were thrilled to be able to spot some of the rainforest animals that they had been learning about, such as the pygmy marmoset (one of the smallest monkeys in the world!) and the toucan flaunting its glorious, colourful beak.
The children felt proud to be able to identify the various types of rainforest plants that we had been studying, such as the Swiss cheese plant and the banana leaf. They were astonished to discover just how big some of the leaves were in reality!
Afterwards, the children got the chance to explore other areas of the zoo and were even fortunate enough to stroke and feed stingrays by hand!
This immersive experience of stepping into the heat of the rainforest with animals roaming free, truly brought the children’s learning to life and we are sure this was a trip that will stay with them for a very long time.
