Spooky day at ISO!
by Elena Kefala
For this year's Halloween event, I was lucky enough to have the role of the photographer. This gave me the opportunity to see and experience all the work shops that were going on as well as the kids' excited reactions to each one of them.
The day started with everyone arriving at school in their costumes. We spent some time enjoying the spooky atmosphere before gathering in the tent for our assembly with Mr Peter, when he informed everyone about the events which would follow. After that, the day officially began.
The kids had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of work shops with their year groups. Our work shops included Professor Csaba's, "Gruesome laboratory" where kids participated in spooky science experiments , Ms Janita's, "Escape room" where they had to find their way out of the room following hidden clues, Ms Kate's, "Creepy Cooking", where they got to bake delicious treats and decorate cookies. At the same time we had Ms Freya's, "Devilish Dance" where kids showed their creativity in spooky dance moves , Ms Jitka's, "Mysterious mini games", where they got to try apple bobbing and Halloween themed colouring, Mr Daniel's, "Disastrous day", where they played games and solved halloween related quizzes and Ms Monika's, "Magical mystery tour" with the help of Ms Dana, where our secondary students designed a treasure hunt and more games themselves.
After our work shops were over, it was time for a short spooky movie. The children then gathered in the tent, where they played a HOUSE POINT Challenge. Following the challenge, the teachers announced and rewarded the winning house as well as the best costumes of the day. The house which won the house challenge was Matildas (4 points) with Wonkas (3 points), Foxes (2 points) and Twits (1 point) following in the next three places. Congratulations to Gavin Cuttino from Y4, Mihai Mihaescu from Y8, Andrea Kralikova from Y6 and Michael Kral from Y5 for winning the best costume award and giving one more point to their respective houses.
Finally, it was time for some group photos and then DISCO! Students and teachers showed their best moves on the dance floor as the day was coming to an end!
In the end, we really enjoyed ourselves and we hope that every child had as much fun as we did. We want to thank Ms Freya for organizing the event and taking care of all the details! A big thank you also to all the teachers who did an amazing job in the work shops they designed, as well as the parents who helped us decorate the school and all our students for the amazing cooperation and interest they showed.
CONGRATULATIONS everyone and thank you for one more amazing Halloween!
They will gain perfect knowledge of English.
Your child will become a global citizen with wide understanding of local and international topics.
We put a strong emphasis on the development on subject specific skills rather than on acquisition of knowledge.
Emphasis on skills development (not just memorising).
Individual approach; school’s ability to motivate for improvement.
Your child will be excited to come to school.
You are not buying success, you are paying for the school to monitor your child’s progress to their goals and motivate them to fulfil their potential.
We are not a selective school: we believe that everybody can be successful.
Jolly Phonics is an engaging way to teach children pre -reading and pre -writing skills using phonics. Phonics is the teaching of the sounds that letters make, rather than the names of letters that are taught in the alphabet, because it is the sounds that are useful for reading and writing, not the names. These sounds are taught in a systematic way, alongside all of the skills needed for being a fluent reader and writer in future. Jolly Phonics also teaches all of this in a fun and engaging way, through characters, stories, actions, songs and games! To read more about Jolly Phonics, clickhere.
