Get ready, Set, Debate!
by Katerina Pegg
For our IPC entry point, both Y5 and Y6 classes have kicked off the topic of Champions for Change by holding a debate. What was the heated topic for discussion? It was ‘Is Santa real?’ The students practiced and tried out debating skills, such as: preparing and presenting arguments for and against the topic, prepared to give a rebuttal to the opposing team’s arguments and concluded the debate with a closing speech. Debates have been, and will continue to be, a big part of our cross-curricular learning, where our English lessons aim at broadening these debating skills, through units such as discussion texts, and persuasive writing.
