Alumni Spotlight: Otakar
Celebrating the journeys of our former students to inspire the next generation.
- Could you please introduce yourself?
- My name is Otakar Toloch, I am Czech and right now I am studying the French section of Slovanské gymnázium Olomouc. In the future I would love to study aerospace engineering. I am a high level epee fencer and cyclist, I participated at 2 Cadet World Championships, and currently I am the first in the Czech ranking in fencing. I am also a silver medalist from the team competition from the European Championship 2025 in mountain bike orienteering.
- How has ISO influenced your career path and contributed to where you are today?
- The unique environment of ISO has helped me in a lot of different aspects. The individual approach of the teachers or the way I have been pushed to get the best out of my potential. Because of this I had an incredible head start in high school, and I have learned how to tackle anything as efficiently as possible. ISO also showed me that fair play and mutual respect are essential, and I believe that this mindset got me to where I am now in my sports career.
- What is one key skill or value from ISO that helped you?
- The one skill that has helped me the most is English. I travel a lot to different competitions or training camps abroad and the ability to speak English like a native speaker is incredibly useful. Profound knowledge of English also helped me with my French studies. Some of the vocabulary is similar making the new language much easier.
- What advice would you give to our current students?
- Don't be lazy and try as hard as you can, the teachers at ISO will see it and will try to get the absolute best out of you. Also have fun, as much fun as possible. You are a kid only once, and at ISO I made some of my best memories. That means you can too!
