We are starting traditions to bring joy...

Last year, we visited the retirement home Chválkovice in Olomouc, and this year we continued the new ISO tradition with another visit to bring joy to all those who live there.
There was a great interest for this visit, particularly from our oldest primary students (Y5/Y6) and all our CS1 students (Y7/Y8, Y9/Y10). The students were so enthusiastic about visiting the elderly people that they organised their break times for rehearsing. We had a lot of Czech Christmas carols being performed, accompanied by students playing instruments along with the singing.
The elderly people saw some fine Irish dance moves by our primary students, Natka Králová, Sabina, and Lilly. They also sang along with our students to some famous Czech carols,such as “Půjdem spolu do Betléma” a “Vánoce, Vánoce”.
We ended our visit by sharing some Christmas cards,which the students made themselves for the elderly people. Our students were so happy to be involved in their local community that they expressed a wish we do such visits more often. We will try to make keep this tradition in the years to come.

Jolly Phonics is an engaging way to teach children pre -reading and pre -writing skills using phonics. Phonics is the teaching of the sounds that letters make, rather than the names of letters that are taught in the alphabet, because it is the sounds that are useful for reading and writing, not the names. ORT is a reading scheme which has been developed to help children learn to read from the age of 4. This scheme is used by a vast majority of preschools and schools in the UK and around the world.ORT includes popular characters and illustrations such as Biff, Chip and Kipper, Floppy, Wordless Stories and easy regular word books to capture children’s imagination and interest and help them develop their pre reading skills. It is an excellent way to practise the skills learned through the Jolly Phonics Programme..
Cambridge Primary ENGLISH promotes an enquiry-based approach, developing learners’ confidence, creativity and intellectual engagement. Learners develop English skills that they can apply to a range of different purposes and audiences in everyday situations and in study.
We teach English as a first language. Pupils that are only starting to learn English or need some additional support are allocated to our intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programme.
