Children, learners, parents, teachers and other staff, welcome to the new academic year 2019/2020.
Author: Petr Pospisil, Petra Leonhardt
Dear parents,
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all current, as well as new members of the school community. The new academic year 2019/2020 will begin soon and we are all excited to be here for your children and to make sure they enjoy another school year- packed with interesting activities and learning opportunities.
This year will certainly be an important one for the future development of our school. The most important issue is that we will have to resolve whether the school will follow a more bilingual model or if we will remain registered as a British School with English as the primary language of instruction. The initial announcement was to open discussion about this subject and since then we have collected some valuable information which will guide our final decision. I would like to stress that the decision has not yet been made and both options are still equally likely to happen. Following the success with the ISI inspection we are still considering the British option as the priority.
Secondly, as you may have already noticed Markéta is going to be more involved again in her work- mostly connected with the Pre-school. This is obviously excellent news. Thirdly, we have made a decision to promote our colleague Eva Pluskalová to the role of the Head of School, she will be managing both primary and secondary programmes. Thus my own role in the day to day management of the school will be somewhat reduced and I shall focus more on the longer term strategic development of the school; which deserves proper attention. This may include: development of a solid monitoring system between the governance and management, development of buildings and school grounds as well as the learning infrastructure. Focus will also be directed towards wider state policy issues connected with legal requirements for international schools. However, I shall still keep in touch with the children and plan to teach some lessons, as I find this truly rewarding. In addition to teaching, I will also be involved in certain processes linked to recruitment and performance management of staff, as well as managing the school’s finances.
From a more short term perspective (with our newly appointed Head of School at the helm), there will be a number of projects that will remain high on our agenda throughout the course of the year. For example, we will be extending our partnership with Wolsey Hall to provide the current Y8 students access to some state of the art e-learning resources. We will also persist to support teaching and learning within our lower secondary and primary school, develop the flexi-schooling program (with the help of Monika) and continue with the Moravian International Schools project.
Children, learners, parents, teachers and other staff, welcome to the new academic year 2019/2020.
Preschool:
Dear parents,
Welcome to our preschool for the 2019-20 year. We hope you and your family had a fun and relaxing summer vacation. It is our hope that this year will be full of successful experiences for your children.
There have been some preschool staff changes. Petra Leonhardt has been promoted to the Head Teacher position and also to the Reception Class Teacher.
We are welcoming two new nannies, Zuzana Hajkova and Sarka Dankova for the Lions Group.
We are all looking forward to working with you and your children. Together we can make a difference.
Please, feel free to contact me anytime if there is a question or a situation you would like to discuss.
Sincerely
Petra Leonhardt, Preschool Head Teacher
They will gain perfect knowledge of English.
Your child will become a global citizen with wide understanding of local and international topics.
We put a strong emphasis on the development on subject specific skills rather than on acquisition of knowledge.
Emphasis on skills development (not just memorising).
Individual approach; school’s ability to motivate for improvement.
Your child will be excited to come to school.
You are not buying success, you are paying for the school to monitor your child’s progress to their goals and motivate them to fulfil their potential.
We are not a selective school: we believe that everybody can be successful.
Jolly Phonics is an engaging way to teach children pre -reading and pre -writing skills using phonics. Phonics is the teaching of the sounds that letters make, rather than the names of letters that are taught in the alphabet, because it is the sounds that are useful for reading and writing, not the names. These sounds are taught in a systematic way, alongside all of the skills needed for being a fluent reader and writer in future. Jolly Phonics also teaches all of this in a fun and engaging way, through characters, stories, actions, songs and games! To read more about Jolly Phonics, clickhere.
ORT is a reading scheme which has been developed to help children learn to read from the age of 4. This scheme is used by a vast majority of preschools and schools in the UK and around the world.ORT includes popular characters and illustrations such as Biff, Chip and Kipper, Floppy, Wordless Stories and easy regular word books to capture children’s imagination and interest and help them develop their pre reading skills. It is an excellent way to practise the skills learned through the Jolly Phonics Programme..
Cambridge Primary ENGLISH promotes an enquiry-based approach, developing learners’ confidence, creativity and intellectual engagement. Learners develop English skills that they can apply to a range of different purposes and audiences in everyday situations and in study.
We teach English as a first language. Pupils that are only starting to learn English or need some additional support are allocated to our intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programme.
More about Cambridge Primary EnglishCambridge Primary MATHEMATICS focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. Knowing your times tables facts without practical application and without developing alongside some good problem solving skills is not that helpful - in our school, we make sure our pupils know why they are learning it and how they can use the specific knowledge and skill.
