It’s the beginning of the end of another academic year. May and June are always very busy. We are preparing a number of very interesting events.

First, I would like to follow up on my previous article about the developing partnership with Wolsey Hall Oxford. We are organizing a meeting for Y6, Y7 and Y8, Y9 parents on Tuesday 15/May at 4.00pm to give more information about our offer.
From the next academic year we will be offering Y9 courses and your child can choose any combination of the following subjects: English, French, Spanish, German, History, Geography, Maths and Science.
This can be followed by the IGCSE courses (stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education). The selection of courses are: English language, English Literature, French, Spanish, German, History, Geography, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Science and Computer Science. By completing a minimum of 5 of these courses and taking the final examinations at any of accredited examination centres, your child will gain formally recognized qualification.
The main advantage is that students will have access to an excellent e-learning platform with clear study plans, subject specialist in the UK as well as ISO and a dedicated independent learning tutor at our school.
These courses can solve a number of questions connected with the continuation after the current classes offered at our school. Qualitatively it is an even higher standard compared with the Czech national curriculum at the appropriate level. Moreover, it is also an excellent opportunity for students to develop independent study skills that are so useful for later high school or even university studies.
So even if you are not a parent from Y6, Y7, Y8 or Y9, you are welcome to attend this meeting to learn more about our new learning solution for the 21st century.
We are again preparing our popular sports day which will take place on Friday 1st June. Like last year, we will host children from the Slunicko school in Lipnik and there will be also children from the International School of Brno coming to join us here in Olomouc. I believe it will be another great event.
In mid June to celebrate the end of another school year we are preparing a big surprise for all primary and lower secondary students. Watch out for the news; it is going to be BIG.
Finally, I would like to announce the date for another formal meeting between the school management and parents. The meeting will take place on Tuesday 5/June at 4.00pm and it will be an opportunity to raise question and discuss past and future developments. Everybody from the parents community who has something to say, suggest or offer is warmly welcomed.
They will gain perfect knowledge of English.
Your child will become a global citizen with wide understanding of local and international topics.
We put a strong emphasis on the development on subject specific skills rather than on acquisition of knowledge.
Emphasis on skills development (not just memorising).
Individual approach; school’s ability to motivate for improvement.
Your child will be excited to come to school.
You are not buying success, you are paying for the school to monitor your child’s progress to their goals and motivate them to fulfil their potential.
We are not a selective school: we believe that everybody can be successful.
Jolly Phonics is an engaging way to teach children pre -reading and pre -writing skills using phonics. Phonics is the teaching of the sounds that letters make, rather than the names of letters that are taught in the alphabet, because it is the sounds that are useful for reading and writing, not the names. These sounds are taught in a systematic way, alongside all of the skills needed for being a fluent reader and writer in future. Jolly Phonics also teaches all of this in a fun and engaging way, through characters, stories, actions, songs and games! To read more about Jolly Phonics, clickhere.
ORT is a reading scheme which has been developed to help children learn to read from the age of 4. This scheme is used by a vast majority of preschools and schools in the UK and around the world.ORT includes popular characters and illustrations such as Biff, Chip and Kipper, Floppy, Wordless Stories and easy regular word books to capture children’s imagination and interest and help them develop their pre reading skills. It is an excellent way to practise the skills learned through the Jolly Phonics Programme..
Cambridge Primary ENGLISH promotes an enquiry-based approach, developing learners’ confidence, creativity and intellectual engagement. Learners develop English skills that they can apply to a range of different purposes and audiences in everyday situations and in study.
We teach English as a first language. Pupils that are only starting to learn English or need some additional support are allocated to our intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programme.
More about Cambridge Primary EnglishCambridge Primary MATHEMATICS focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. Knowing your times tables facts without practical application and without developing alongside some good problem solving skills is not that helpful - in our school, we make sure our pupils know why they are learning it and how they can use the specific knowledge and skill.
