Wonderful day at ISO

by Eleni Kefala

This year’s poetry day was a wonderful experience and opportunity for all of us to enjoy beautiful poems combined with breathtaking performances. Our students enjoyed a range of poetry workshops with our teachers before they gathered for the slam competition. The competition judges were international students from Palacky University who gave helpful comments and advice to the performers. Every house had to choose one or two performers, a coach and a poem written by them or someone else. Every performance was unique and our students were well prepared, knowing all the poems by heart and involving dance or theatrical moves in their performance as well as props and costumes they made themselves. In the end, Foxes won first place with Igor (Y6) and Pepa (Y4) performing “My teacher likes minecraft”, a modern poem by Kenn Nesbitt. Wonkas won second place with an original poem written and performed by Tobi G. (Y3) with the help of Kristelle (Y5) and Mihai (Y8) as their coach. Twits won third place with Gavin (Y4) performing “My cat knows karate”, by Kenn Nesbitt with Linda (Y7) as his coach and Matildas won fourth place with Sabina (Y6) and Michael (Y5) performing “No Breathing”, by Michael Rosen with the help of their coach, Eda (Y8). It’s great to see how much our students are evolving every year, exploring new ideas and successfully incorporating them into their work. We are very proud of our little poets and everyone who supported and cheered for them and we’re looking forward to a similar experience next year!
